Music Recommendation #3
So because nothing interesting happened today and a general lack of things to blog about, I’m going to recommend THE REPLACEMENTS!!!!
I don’t know much about the band’s history, but there’s always Wikipedia! *steals* And I am too tired and too lazy to write my own anyway right now.
The Replacements were an American alternative rock band formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1979.
The Replacements’ music was influenced by classic rock artists such as the Faces and The Rolling Stones as well as punk bands such as The Clash. Unlike many of their underground contemporaries, the Replacements played “heart-on-the-sleeve” rock songs that combined Westerberg’s “raw-throated adolescent howl”[3] with self-deprecating lyrics. The Replacements were a notoriously wayward live act, often performing under the influence of alcohol and trashing their instruments. The Replacements credit the Twin Cities founding punk band The Suicide Commandos as being their inspiration to become rock musicians.
Song Recommendations:
Alex Chilton: It’s about the guy from Big Star. Every time I hear that embellishment after the bridge, I always go back and listen to it. I have no idea why.
Within Your Reach: I love this song a lot now. It pertains to something I’m going through, so that may be why.
Waitress In The Sky: It’s so damn catchy. I skipped from 8th period singing it today.
I Will Dare: Another catchy one, off Let It Be. Yes, the Replacements named an album Let It Be.
They Might Be Giants dedicated a song to the Replacements, entitled…”We’re The Replacements!” (Bet you know what my next Music Recommendation will be now…)
