Spirited Away=/=pr0n!
So, there’s this movie that some of you might have heard of called Spirited Away. It’s an anime by Hayao Miyazaki that became very popular in the States. For those of you who have not heard of it, it’s about a whiny little girl named Chihiro who, on the way to her new house with her family, comes across a bathhouse for traditional Japanese spirits. Her parents eat some of the spirit food and get turned into pigs, and she has to work at the bathhouse in order to get her parents back. Along the way, she manages to become a better person and all the while bring out some of the better qualities in people she meets. If Chihiro sounds like a Mary Sue, she’s not; there are no real villains in Spirited Away. Everyone has their positive and negative qualities, including Chihiro.
Chihiro makes a friend named Haku in the film, who turns out to be a river spirit. He’s depicted as being about thirteen or fourteen years old. He has a curse on him, placed by a witch, that can only be broken by love. Chihiro breaks it. Now, let me explain this. The love that is breaking the curse is PLATONIC. A ten year old girl does not know what it is to romantically love someone. They might have seen some in movies, but the real thing is a few years away.
So, this is a message to all the people on fanfiction.net who are writing Chihiro/Haku fics: STOP MAKING TEN YEAR OLDS HAVE SEX IN YOUR FANFICS!!! IT’S WRONG!! IT’S NOT THAT KIND OF RELATIONSHIP!!
There are also a lot of badly written spirited away fics about older Chihiro/older Haku romance/sex/marriage. And NONE OF THEM characterize Chihiro as Chihiro. She’s just a generic Mary Sue there.
STOP WRECKING SPIRITED AWAY!!!!
Trying to stop fanfic writers from putting the characters into utterly bizarre sexual relationships is a lost cause.
